So it begins. We have sold our home in Reston, downsized significantly and have a few things in storage. Next is to sell our old home in Ashburn, VA but we have moved aboard Amekaya.
We still haven't figured out where everything goes but we're working on it. I'm used to living out of a ruck sack or suit case so it's easy for me but Linda is doing well at working down to the things we really need. When you look at most things you own you really don't need them. Furniture, furnishings etc are all just stuff. At the end of the day there are only a few things that really define you. That in another 50 years should we live so long will still matter. Those things we want to keep. The rest can go spend time elsewhere. As Ryan Bingham espoused, put your stuff in a backpack and set it on fire. What have you lost? Many unlucky people have tragedies like floods or tornadoes that free them of their belongings. We have the good fortune of being able to selectively determine what we want to keep.
But this is the beginning of the chronicle that will track our transition from a terrestrial lifestyle to the nautical that in the end will give us the freedom to explore the regions of our planet in a way that is far beyond the reaches of any interstate highway or cruise line.
As they say life is what happens when you are waiting for everything else. So this is the story of that life and it is everything else.
